Example of Industrial park signage now allowed

Industrial Park Signage Update!

You spoke, we listened! We have heard from several businesses located inside industrial parks that they would like to have signage at the entrance to the industrial park. The Goochland Board of Supervisors recently changed the zoning ordinance to allow industrial parks to have signage at their entrances that allow names of individual businesses inside the park. The ordinance also allows businesses to keep their existing sign at their location. With this change in the ordinance, our hopes is that the businesses interested in having signage at the entrance to their industrial parks work together to add new signage at their entrance. Goochland County Economic Development is happy to help the individual industrial parks on new signage projects to ensure any new signage is in compliance with the County's regulations. Please let us know how we can help!

ATTENTION RESTAURANTS, ATTRACTIONS, OR OTHER TOURISM BUSINESSES!

GRANT OPPORTUNITY TO HELP FUND COST OF ROADWAY SIGNAGE

The purpose of the Goochland County LOGO & Tourist-Oriented Directional Sign (TODS) Grant program is to support businesses and organizations in Goochland’s tourism industry with advertising and directional signage to drive visitors to tourist locations in the County. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) regulates the size, location, and type of signage along public roads by requiring permits. There are annual fees associated with obtaining these permits.  Small tourism businesses, like restaurants, craft beverage makers, and retail shops typically cannot afford extensive advertising budgets.

This grant initiative is designed to:

  • Increase Visibility: Help travelers easily locate your business while navigating Goochland County’s roadways.
  • Drive Tourism: Encourage visitation and economic activity by making our attractions and services more accessible.
  • Support Your Success: Provide financial assistance to reduce barriers to participation in these vital signage programs.

Did you know your restaurant or bar could receive a tax refund on employer-paid taxes on tips through the FICA Tip Credit? The FICA Tip Credit is designed exclusively for food and beverage establishments, allowing you to claim a credit, and possibly a refund, for the Social Security and Medicare taxes you’ve paid on employee tips.

Here’s why this matters:

•    Unlock Refund Potential: In some cases, you could even qualify for a refund!

•    Reduce Taxable Income: The FICA Tip Credit directly offsets your taxable income, potentially saving you thousands.

•    No Upfront Costs: See if you qualify with no risk. There are no fees to apply or determine eligibility.

Important: This is not the ERC or a general “tip credit” - it’s a specialized program for employers like you to maximize tax benefits tied to employee tips.

Adesso is available to guide you through the process to ensure you’re taking full advantage of tax savings available to you through the IRS.

Don’t leave money on the table. Get started today, or contact VRLTA to find out more.

Business Spotlight!

Each Month we will spotlight a different Goochland Business!

Mid Atlantic Surfaces

Goochland County is home to many businesses that manufacture goods in our backyard and then ship them across the United States. These companies import new dollars into our local economy, which then flow through the community through various channels. One of these companies is Mid Atlantic Surfaces. Their product line includes kitchen and bathroom countertops, thermoforming curvatures, and textured walls. Most of Mid Atlantic Surfaces’ products are made from Corian, which allows them to bend the material to meet the customers’ desires and needs. They are also the exclusive distributor in North America for Plug & Play Bathrooms, which is modular solution for new and renovative bathrooms. Finally, Mid Atlantic Surfaces is a national distribution, fabrication, and installation partner for M.R. Walls, an exclusive line of seamless, multidimensional, textured walls.

Founded in 1989, Mid-Atlantic Surfaces moved to Oilville in 2016. Mid Atlantic Surfaces’ customers vary, with most of their business focused on commercial work. They have done work for the Smithsonian, universities, hotels, and retail stores. Roughly 20% of the work they do is custom fabrication, in which they provide excellent attention to detail for their clients. One of their growing markets is Corian texture walls with LED backlighting. These texture walls allow customers to create unique styles that make the interior of their buildings unique and standout.

Mid Atlantic Surfaces fabricates these custom creations through advanced machinery and techniques. Utilizing their thermoforming and CNC machines, they are able offer solutions to address their clients’ needs and wants. While countertops and textured walls are the focus, Mid Atlantic also creates benches, tables, and other geometric shapes to meet their customers’ design needs. Head on over to Mid Atlantic Surfaces' website and check out their gallery for a full display of all their amazing work. While their work is made in Goochland County, it is seen by thousands all over the U.S.A.
