GoochlandCares is seeking skilled volunteer licensed contractors

GoochlandCares is seeking skilled volunteer licensed contractors to join its Critical Home Repair program. With a staggering 1 in 5 housing units in Goochland affected by substandard conditions, the need to enhance living conditions and ensure safe, healthy homes for residents has never been more pressing. In 2022, GoochlandCares’ Critical Home Repair program successfully completed 117 projects, restoring 66 homes to safety. This program tackles safety and emergent issues, ranging from damaged floors to well repair and installation, ADA bathtub conversions, and damaged roofs. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians, mechanics, HVAC technicians, roofers, and those with general repair skills are encouraged to volunteer and make a difference in their community. 2023 Goochland Farm Tour Day

Spend the day exploring seven of Goochland's farms

Join us for Goochland's first ever public farm tour day! On Saturday, August 12th, in collaboration with the Goochland Agricultural Fair, seven local farms will be open for the public to visit, learn, and enjoy.  Use this opportunity to connect with the roots of Goochland and explore local farms. Farms will provide scheduled tours, educational demonstrations, and opportunities to purchase fresh produce and goods.

Overhome Farm - Interested in the ins and outs of an active cattle farm? Well Overhome Farm is the place for you to go. Sign up for a wagon tour of the farm to see the cattle herd and learn about the conservation improvements they made to help the environment. Please click here to sign up for a tour. Donovan Apiaries - Have you ever wondered what a beekeeper does all year? Join Donovan Apiaries to look at an observation hive, check out the tools for the job, and ask questions about the fascinating world of beekeeping! Peacemeal Farm - Interested in learning about sustainable homesteading? Well Peacemeal Farm is the place for you! Maps will be available for self guided farm & garden tours throughout the day. On the tour people can see goats, chickens, fruit & berry plants, the vegetable & flower garden, and the gourd tunnel. There will also be a display on sustainable homesteading, highlighting all the products that can be used from the farm. Labyrinth Training Center - The Labyrinth Training Center will be open for exploration and will provide a property map upon arrival. Elk Island Winery - Come learn about the inner workings of an active vineyard! Elk Island Winery is named for the 1,300 acre island in the James River, originally part of Thomas Jefferson's Elk Hill Farm, adjacent to the vineyard. An active vineyard that produces wine from the grapes it harvests, Elk Island also has the Lower Byrd Farm where they grow row crop grains. Elk Island will be offering tours of the vineyard at 11:30, 1:30, and 3:30. Tasting room hours are from 12:00 to 6:00. 5759 River Road West Goochland VA 23063

Courthouse Creek Cider - Interested in apple orchards and making cider? Then stop by Courthouse Creek Cider to learn about their 4 acre apple orchard. Make sure to be on the lookout for the donkey, flock of sheep, and chickens and ducks that roam the property. Courthouse Creek will be offering tours of their farm at 12:00, 2:00, and 4:00 pm.
