Public Schools

Goochland County Public Schools offer a variety of programs and services to prepare students for a successful and fulfilling future. These offerings include Special Education, Gifted and Talented and Enrichment, Alternative Education, Career and Technical Education, Pre-Kindergarten, and Governor's School.

There are also multiple opportunities for dual enrollment courses, which are offered through J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, and Advanced Placement classes.

All schools in the Goochland County Public Schools (GCPS) system provide special education, enrichment and gifted services. GCPS is accredited by the Virginia Department of Education and AdvancED (formerly SACS-CASI).

  • In 2013, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Dr. Stephen Geyer, named Virginia's Curriculum Leader of the Year by Virginia's Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development
  • In 2013, the GHS marching band earned "Superior" rating at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association Marching Band Assessment
